Christine Tucker

Chief of Staff

Christine TuckerChristine Tucker is Chief of Staff to Catholic Relief Services President Ken Hackett. She oversees the President's office and ensures clear and effective implementation of agency strategy and directives from the President through the five executive vice presidents.

Ms. Tucker joined CRS in 1980, monitoring and evaluating CRS projects in Columbia in agricultural production and small enterprise development. From 1982 to 1988, she was CRS Country Representative for Peru and Chile, based in Lima. She became Country Representative for Bolivia in 1988, as well as Sub-Regional Director for South America.

From 1992 to 1999, Ms. Tucker was CRS Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, a period that saw the opening of the first CRS program in Cuba, as well as the emergency response to the devastation of Hurricane Mitch in Central America. From 1999 to 2004, she was CRS Regional Director for the Middle East/North Africa Region, based in Cairo.

Since the early 1990s, Ms. Tucker has been closely involved in the incorporation of the "justice lens" process throughout CRS. This has included the development of a Justice Reflection and tools to incorporate it into programming, as well as the development of Guiding Principles and an effort to engage CRS' U.S. constituency in building global solidarity. In 2000, Ms. Tucker played a leading role in coordinating, organizing and overseeing the CRS World Summit.

In 2004, Ms. Tucker was appointed Director of the CRS HIV/AIDS Global Response Unit, responsible for developing an integrated and coordinated approach to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. From 2004 to 2006, she was Director of CRS Peacebuilding Initiatives in the U.S., providing strategic leadership and technical support to CRS U.S. Operations. She also represented CRS in the Catholic response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

In 2006, she became Regional Director for the Mid-Atlantic Region, including Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC. She also led the U.S. Operations division on an interim basis during the search for an executive vice president.

Ms. Tucker holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Kansas and an M.A. in International Relations from George Washington University. She is married to William Tucker, an international development specialist with expertise in microenterprise. They have three grown children: Will, Rebecca and Harrison.
