CRS in Benin

Benin

In a region marred by instability and violence, Benin is noted for its democratization and commitment to peace. While the small West African country struggles to improve basic living conditions for its 8 million citizens, the winds of change are blowing. Benin's new president, Dr. Boni Yayi, is instituting reforms, and the international community is responding. Catholic Relief Services is working closely with the people of Benin during this time of growth and hope.

Since 1958, CRS has focused attention on Benin's most vulnerable citizens, especially children, people living with HIV and AIDS and their families, and the rural poor. CRS currently works in the fields of education, health and microfinance. Programs are implemented through local partners such as the government of Benin, the Episcopal Conference of Benin, and local and international nongovernmental organizations.

Under the leadership of Carla Brown-Ndiaye, CRS country representative, CRS Benin is working in all 12 departments of the country. The main office is located in Cotonou, the commercial capital. There is also a field office in the northern town of Djougou.
