Walking Day and Night for Food in East Africa

The sprawling refugee camp in the eastern Kenyan town of Dadaab sees some 1,300 people from Somalia arrive each day in search of food and water. Mostly on foot, or sometimes by donkey cart, the refugees are fleeing war, drought and famine.

During their journey, they face attacks by armed bandits and wild animals. CRS is helping desperately poor people in Dadaab and surrounding communities cope with failed harvests, rising food prices and the influx of refugees.

Meet a few of the camp inhabitants, and read their personal stories here.
