In 2007, three of the winners of the Egan Award for Journalistic Excellence — accompanied by CRS staff — traveled to Latin America to see CRS' programs in Peru. You can read more about their experience in the following articles written for their publications and see a slideshow of photos from the trip.
During ten days of travel across the country, the journalists had a chance to see various CRS-supported projects, ranging from environmental advocacy efforts in Peru's Mantaro Valley to programs supporting Peru's working children in Cuzco and the Amazon.
They started their journey in Lima, Peru's capital, where they met with local CRS staff. From there, they traveled at high altitudes to villages in the Andean highlands, to remote places in the Amazon rainforest, and visited the colonial town of Cuzco, the hub of the Incan empire. From there, they proceeded to take in the breathtaking sights of Machu Picchu. Before returning home, some of the journalists also had a chance to visit the sites where an 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck in August 2007.
