Media Alert: Catholic Relief Services Braces for Typhoon Parma to Make Landfall in Philippines

October 02, 2009, Baltimore, MD —

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) continues to rush life-saving food, medicine, shelter supplies, household goods and hygiene items to victims of last week's Typhoon Ketsana in the Philippines and Vietnam. CRS Philippines and local partners continue to reach the neediest victims even as Typhoon Parma approaches the water-weary island nation.

Aid workers are on the ground ready to speak to the media about the developing situation as the storm progresses, as well as to provide updates on evolving relief needs.

Additionally, CRS staff is coordinating immediate relief for victims of the earthquake in Padang, Indonesia. Our experienced emergency response team is moving quickly through devastated communities to evaluate areas of greatest need and mobilize relief supplies for affected neighborhoods. They are available to speak to the media about the current earthquake, and to put today's efforts into context of past emergency response endeavors in Indonesia.

For media inquiries, please contact Laura Sheahen, Liz O'Neill and John Rivera.
