CRS History in Rwanda
CRS has had a presence in Rwanda since 1963. Since the 1980s, the agency has promoted self-help initiatives by introducing projects that encourage local communities to participate in the identification and resolution of their own development problems. CRS was directly involved in emergency programs after the outbreak of civil conflict in 1990, but has now transitioned back to developmental activities. CRS/Rwanda has 95 national and four international staff. The agency's main office is located in the capital city of Kigali and there is one field office in Butare.
